A frequent question is whether you need to profile your scanner separately for reflective and transmissive scanning and what kind of IT8 targets are required for this.
SilverFast uses 3 separate profiles for scanning and you'll need a separate IT8 chart for each to create your own profiles:
1. reflective material (like drawings, postcards)
2. transparency scanning (E6 slide film)
3. Kodachrome scanning (Kodachromes are usually cardboard-framed)
SilverFast comes with a set of all 3 profiles (SE Plus and higher) which are individually created for each scanner model that SilverFast supports. With your own set of targets you can get even exacter results by profiling the scanner that you use.
The light situation in the scanner is a completely different one when comparing reflective and transmissive scanning. SilverFast uses separate ICC profiles to adapt to this and give you exakt results.
Kodachromes were to be presented using a slide projector powered by a tungsten bulb that produced a high percentage of yellow light. Kodachromes have a blue cast so that the projection appears neutral as a result.
When scanning, the typical Kodachrome blue must be reduced to obtain a neutral result. For this purpose, SilverFast uses a special Kodachrome ICC profile, which is supplied with SilverFast SE Plus and higher.
