Why Use Advanced Color Calibration?
Color calibration is essential for achieving professional-quality scans. By creating a custom profile for your specific scanner, you can:
- Ensure accurate color representation
- Compensate for any color shifts or inconsistencies in your scanner
- Achieve consistent results across multiple scanning sessions
- Save time on post-processing and color correction
Types of Calibration Targets
SilverFast supports different types of calibration targets depending on your scanning needs:
- Advanced Reflective Target: Used for flatbed scanners when scanning photos or documents
- Advanced Transparency Target: For scanning film or transparencies (excluding 35mm slides)
- Advanced 3-slide Color Calibration Target: Specifically for 35mm transparencies
Step-by-Step Calibration Process
For Reflective Targets:
- Carefully remove the target from its protective covering and place it on the glass surface of your flatbed scanner.
- Start SilverFast and click the calibration tool in the vertical toolbar.
- Select "Advanced Calibration" from the options menu.
- Follow the instructions provided by the calibration assistant, which will guide you through preview, frame-finding, and profile creation.
For Transparency Targets (excluding 35mm slides):
- Remove the target from its protective covering and place it in the scanner's corresponding holder. If no holder is available, place the target directly on the scanner's glass surface.
- Follow steps 2-4 as described for reflective targets.
For 35mm Slide Targets:
- Insert the 3 targets from your 35mm slide set into the scanner's holder. For scanners with automatic feeding, add the slides to the empty JobManager before proceeding.
- Start SilverFast and click the calibration tool in the vertical toolbar.
- Select "Advanced 3 Slide Calibration" from the options menu.
- Follow the calibration assistant's instructions for preview, frame-finding, and profile creation.
After Calibration
Once the calibration process is complete, SilverFast will automatically activate your individual color profile. This profile will be used for all subsequent scans, ensuring accurate color reproduction.
