A crash can have many reasons and you might not be able to solve the issue all for yourself, but here is what you can do:
- if you can still access SilverFast:
1. Switch off the scanner and quit SilverFast (force quit, if necessary).
2. Switch the scanner back on and restart SilverFast.
3. Try to do the same thing again that previously lead to the crash.
4. If it crashes again, we recommend that you reset the software and try if you can still reproduce the issue afterwards. Please do so in the "service" part of the welcome screen of SilverFast.
- if you can access SilverFast's welcome screen only:
1. If the software crashes when hitting the start button, please make sure that your scanner is properly connected and the latest driver is installed. The scanner should be switched on and ready to use.
2. Reset the software and try if you can start the actual program.
- if you can't open SilverFast at all:
1. If SilverFast can't load the welcome screen to give you access to the service dialog, you can use the Support Tool that we have prepared for this:

2. Run the tool and reset the preferences.
If you can still reproduce the crash, check if the FAQ holds a solution to this issue. If not, please open a support request and ask our support team for help. We try to answer within 1-2 working days. Call us, for urgent help. You might be using a tool that can't be used under certain circumstances (like iSRD on b/w film) or you might have run into something that our support needs to look at. We'll try to figure things out together with you. The more information we get, the faster we can help you.
