No support for Firewire in macOS 26 Tahoe (affects users with e.g. Nikon LS-4000, LS-8000, LS-9000)

Concerns non-compatibility of certain Nikon CoolScan scanners with macOS 26.
With the release of macOS 26, Apple has completely discontinued support for Firewire.

This change affects the following Nikon scanner models, among others:
Super CoolScan 4000 ED
Super CoolScan 8000 ED
Super CoolScan 9000 ED

Since these devices require a Firewire connection, they can no longer be used with macOS 26 – SilverFast can also no longer support connection via Firewire, as this is a system-side restriction. Unfortunately, LaserSoft Imaging is unable to provide a technical solution.
This also affects Firewire devices that could previously be connected using one or more adapters.

Our recommendation:
Do not update your system to macOS 26 if you want to continue working with a CoolScan scanner.
The devices will continue to work with older macOS versions (up to and including macOS 15).
